China’s Insurance Figures for May 2023: Tesla at 13,200; Nio at 5,400; Xpeng at 1,945

Weekly car insurance figures for China from May 20 to 26 showed a surge in sales for pure electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers such as Zeekr, Nio, and Xiaomi. Tesla Model 3 had the highest number of weekly insured units. Tesla saw a 5% decrease with the Model Y being the best-selling car. Nio, Tesla, BYD, Xpeng, and Xiaomi all had varying numbers of insurance registrations. Nio’s deliveries for May are expected to exceed 18,000 units, Tesla’s 52,000, BYD’s 250,000, and Xiaomi’s 8,000 units. Li Auto also saw an increase in insurance registrations. BYD insured almost 210,000 new energy vehicles in May.
